Server Virtualization Engineer:

Hosted Solutions is looking for an experienced Server Virtualization Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in architecting and operating complex server virtualization solutions in production environments. In-depth knowledge of one or more operating systems is required. Candidates must have impeccable written and verbal communication skills and show a working knowledge of project management principles.
A bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent 6 - 10 years progressive experience implementing information technology solutions is required. The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of VMWare, Xen, and Microsoft Virtual Server, as well as multiple operating systems experience (Windows, Unix, Linux) and a wide variety of applications that run on those platforms. Preference will be given to candidates having direct sales support and customer support experience in addition to the technical requirements.
Duties will include direct technical support of all server virtualization infrastructures, proactive review and problem resolution, on-going analysis and planning to maximize platform capabilities to benefit customer implementations, and direct involvement in all new service turn-up's. Provide technical leadership to operations staff. Track performance, utilization, platform growth, and adherence to service metrics. Provide operating system support and leadership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and well-performing server virtualization solutions for a wide range of application hosting requirements, including database servers, email servers, web servers, and application servers, taking into account their respective system resource consumption patterns over time.
- Demonstrate engineering level experience across multiple virtualization technologies, e.g., VMWare, Xen, Microsoft Virtual Server, etc.
- Experience with the benefits and trade-off's of the most popular server virtualization configurations
- Oversee all operations aspects of server virtualization infrastructure.
- Lead technical resolution of all server virtualization issues.
- Develop disaster recovery plans for all server virtualization products.
- Plan and implement software upgrades to server virtualization infrastructure.
- Serve as project lead for all new service turn-up's.
- Provide day to day technical leadership.
- Provide and coordinate technical sales support relating to new opportunities.
- Review and enhance service descriptions.
- Ensure compliance with operations processes and policies.
- Demonstrate technical leadership in Microsoft Windows, Unix, or Linux operating systems.
- Possess a working knowledge of storage administration in a Storage Area Network (SAN) environment.
- Possess a working knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies.
- Understanding of network and systems security.
- Understanding of IP addressing and subnets, routing protocols, firewalls, and load balancing.
