Belk inks deal with Hosted Solutions

Belk Inc. is expanding its information-technology contract with Hosted Solutions, a Raleigh-based firm that has an office in Charlotte.

Charlotte-based Belk became a client of Hosted Solutions in late 2008, signing a deal for hosting and managed services to support the department-store chain’s e-commerce Web site, www.belk.com.

The new agreement includes database administration and the co-location of Belk’s credit- and debit-card data.

Financial terms of the expanded contract weren’t disclosed.

“As a result of our relationship with Hosted Solutions, our systems are more secure and our e-commerce site is more robust than ever before,” says Roddy Kerr, chief information officer at Belk. “We’ve seen our online sales and traffic increase and anticipate that trend to continue. We want to ensure that our infrastructure can easily handle spikes in traffic and create a consistent user experience for our customers.”

Hosted Solutions operates data centers in Charlotte, Raleigh, Cary and Boston.
Belk is the nation’s largest privately owned department-store company. It operates more than 300 stores in 16 Southern states. The company was founded in 1888 in Monroe.
