DATABASE BACKUPS FOR POINT IN TIME RECOVERY

• Daily or weekly backup of all databases to local disk using SQL Server commands.
• Hourly backup of transaction logs to local disk using SQL Server commands.
• Daily sweep of online backup files to tape backup system (requires server backup package).
• Additional charges may apply to large databases.

DATABASE MONITORING & ADMINISTRATION

• Monitor network connectivity to the database server
• Monitor that SQL Server services are running
• Monitor disk space
• Review SQL Server scheduled jobs for failures
• Review SQL Server and Windows event logs
• Resize database data and transaction log files as required
• Check for database corruption
• Create and update database statistics
• Rebuild or defrag indexes
• Cycle SQL Server error logs

DATABASE BASELINE & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

• Establish baselines by measuring performance under various load conditions.
• Collect Windows and SQL Server counters for analysis and troubleshooting.
• Collect SQL Server traces for analysis of frequent and long running queries.
• Identify areas for potential analysis (e.g. SQL query tuning, index tuning, hardware tuning).
